Feliz Navidad

El 19 de Diciembre los jóvenes aprendieron sobre la importancia de tomar responsabilidades por su rol en el equipo. Tuvimos una actividad llamada Magical Straw, en el que los jóvenes tuvieron que bajar un sorbete al suelo. Suena fácil, pero fue muy difícil.

On the 19th of December the youths learnt about the importance of taking responsibility for one’s role in the team. We had an activity called Magical Straw in which the youths had to lower a straw to the ground. It sounds easy but was rather difficult.

También celebramos la Navidad con nuestros queridos voluntarios. Nuestros jóvenes dieron unas palabras de aprecio hacia sus Profesores, y a los voluntarios les entregamos regalos.

We also celebrated Christmas with our beloved volunteers. Our youths gave a speech about what they appreciated about their teachers, and we gave them gifts.

Deseamos a todos nuestros jóvenes y voluntarios Feliz Navidad y un Feliz Año Nuevo.

Charla en La Cantuta - Charla sobre La Educación

En 3 de Noviembre fuimos a la Universidad Enrique Guzmán y Valle (La Cantuta), por segunda vez para dar una charla sobre la educación.

On the 3rd of November we went to University Enrique Guzmán y Valle (La Cantuta) for the second time to give a talk on education.

Koh Yun, nuestra voluntaria de Singapur, preparó un taller para algunos profesores quienes son los estudiantes de La Cantuta, dándoles consejos sobre cómo manejar una clase, herramientas y métodos que pueden utilizar para la enseñanza. Los estudiantes, que estaban estudiando para ser profesores, dijieron que su charla fue muy útil e interesante.

Koh Yun, our volunteer from Singapore, prepared a workshop for some student teachers from Cantuta, showing them tips on how to manage a classroom, tools and methods they can use for teaching. The students, who were studying to become teachers, found her talk very helpful and interesting.

Charla en La Cantuta - La Cultura China

El 28 de octubre fuimos a la Universidad Enrique Guzmán y Valle (La Cantuta) a dar una charla sobre la cultura China.

On the 28th of October we went to University Enrique Guzmán y Valle (Cantuta) to give a talk on Chinese culture.

La Universidad de Cantuta es una universidad pública muy grande e impresionante. Ofrece educación, ingeniería y administración. Nos encontramos con unos jóvenes que estaban organizando la charla para la Universidad.

Cantuta University is quite a big and impressive public university. It offers education, engineering and administration. We met a few youths who were organizing the talk for the university.

Keng Suan dió la presentación de la Cultura China - La Cultura Prominente en Asia a un auditorio lleno de estudiantes del Departamento de Lenguas Extranjeras. Habló de las similitudes y diferencias entre las culturas orientales y occidentales, cómo piensan los chinos, cómo usar los palillos y enseñó algunas palabras sencillas de China.

Keng Suan gave the presentation for Chinese Culture – The Prominent Culture in Asia to an auditorium of students from the Department of Foreign Languages. She spoke about the similarities and differences between the Asian and Western cultures, how Chinese think, how to use chopsticks and taught a few simple Chinese words.

Tuvimos un buen tiempo hablando con los estudiantes y comiendo con ellos después de la charla.
We had a good time talking to the students and eating with them after the talk.

Aprendizaje de Servicio

El sábado 3 de octubre concluimos con la segunda etapa de "Aprendizaje de Servicio", con la ayuda de la Municipalidad de Surquillo, quienes sábado tras sábado nos acompañaron por las calles del distrito, recolectando desperdicios ya sea desde cáscaras de fruta, periódicos, botellas, vidrios, maderas, ect.

On last Saturday the 3rd of October we concluded with the second stage of "Service Learning", with the help of the Municipality of Surquillo, who accompanied us in the streets of the district collecting rubbish, be it fruit peels, newspapers, bottles, glass, wood, etc.

Ellos harán un plan en el cual tendrá 3 requisitos primordiales estos son los siguientes:

1) ROMPIENDO SUPOSICIONES
2) ENCONTRAR LA RAÍZ DEL PROBLEMA
3) LA CREATIVIDAD

Una aventura con los chicos y chicas que desarrollaron el Aprendizaje y Servicio.

They will come up with a plan in which there are the 3 following prerequisites:

1) BREAKING ASSUMPTIONS
2) FINDING THE ROOT PROBLEM
3) LA CREATIVIDAD

It is an adventure with the youths to develop them in Learning and Service.

Inicio del Spring Cycle 2009 - II

Iniciamos nuestra clases de inglés y actividades el sábado 22 de agosto, Spring Cycle 2009 - II, con una charla a los jóvenes a cerca de los proyectos que vamos a desarrollar este ciclo, asu vez también presentandoles a sus nuevos profesores voluntarios, que se unen a la familia Gen ACTS! Hemos comenzado nuestras actividades con el Aprendizaje Experimental también – en estas actividades los jóvenes pueden aprender más a conocerse ellos mismos y aprender a trabajar en equipo. Fue muy divertido ver a los jóvenes participando en juegos tales como la confianza, la comunicación y el trabajo en equipo.

Después del aprendizaje experimental los jóvenes pasaron un tiempo de evaluación y aprendizaje junto a sus respectivos equipos y líderes.

CLAUSURA DEL CLUB

El día sábado se llevo acabo en nuestro la clausura del primer ciclo de este año. Muchos de nuestros jóvenes a los largo de este ciclo han alcanzo muy buenas notas en sus clases de inglés. También nuestros jóvenes altruistas han alcanzado sus petas al culminar con Youth Challenge.

On Saturday we had our Club Closing for the first cycle of the year. Many of our youths have achieved good grades in their English classes. Furthermore our youths have achieved their goals at the end of Youth Challenge.

La señorita Keng Suan, Administradora del Proyecto Youth Alive!, hizo una presentación de los logros que han obtenido los jóvenes durante el ciclo, en la clases de Inglés y Youth Challenge. Y también el reconocimiento de los profesores voluntarios que hacen todo lo posible para servir a otros.

Ms. Keng Suan, the Youth Alive! Manager, presented the achievements that the youths have obtained in this cycle, in the English Classes and Youth Challenge. The volunteer teachers were also thanked and given recognition of the work they did in serving others.

Por otro lado Andrew Teoh nuestro Director de Generation Acts Club, hizo la entrega de las diplomas a los jóvenes sobresalientes en clases de inglés y como también de Youth Challenge.

Our Country Manager of Generation ACTS Club, Mr Andre Teoh, then presented the certificates to the outstanding youths in the English classes and in the Youth Challenge.

La primera diploma fue entregada a Frank Höflich, por sobre salir en las clases de inglés.

The first certificate was awarded to Frank Höflich for his outstanding performance in English.

Esa tarde estuvieron los padres de familia presentes para la clausura del primer ciclo. Ellos han podido ver que sus hijos han alcanzado metas durante las actividades que hemos realizado durante este ciclo. Ha sido un ciclo lleno de muy buenas experiencias, hemos pasado gratos momentos con cada joven y esperamos que el próximo ciclo, hayan más desafíos y retos que cumplir.

The parents of the youths were also present in the closing of the 1st cycle. They have been able to observe the goals their children achieved in the activities that took place this cycle. It has been a cycle full of good experiences, and we have passed great moments with the youths and we hope that in the next cycle that they can continue to challenge themselves.

EJECUCIÓN DE LOS PROYECTOS:

Grupo de Aventura Nº1: "Los últimos caminantes"
Adventure group Nº1: "Los últimos caminantes"

Su proyecto de aventura consistió en hacer una caminata desde el club hasta la costa negra, ya en el circuito de playas fueron trotando con las caras pintadas hasta llegar al puente de los suspiros, en el puente se tomaron algunas fotos con policías y fotos en algunos parques cercanos.

The adventure project consisted walking with painted faces and shirts from the Club to the beaches, and to continue walking from the beaches to the Bridge of Sighs, taking photos with the police and some parks along the way.

“Es la primera caminata que hacemos y estamos muy entusiasmados con esta idea de incentivar las caminatas, como una forma de salir del sedentarismo, para tener una vida mucho más sana y con mejor calidad. Debemos aprender que con poco esfuerzo podemos evitar muchos de problemas de salud”.

"It was the first walk that we did and we were very enthusiastic with this idea of encouraging walking as a form of exercise, in order to have a healthier life of better quality. We learn that with a little effort we can avoid many health problems."

De esta manera el grupo los últimos caminantes llegaron a concluir con su reto, un reto que duro 5 horas desde el inicio hasta el fin ellos demostraron con su proyecto que no está nada mal como para no animarse, amarrarse bien los pasadores e ir a caminar, eso si con una buena música y disfrutar de la caminata.

In this manner the group "Los últimos caminantes" completed their challenge, which took 5 hours from the start to finish. They learnt how to encourage each other, chat with other people and to go on a long walk, enjoying it and listening to good music.

Adventure Group Nº2: ¡Somos!

Un paseo por aquí y llegamos más lejos de lo que imaginamos. El grupo de aventura Somos, se fue de viaje a “Marcahuasi” Meseta de origen volcánico de una extensión aproximada de 4 km, ubicada a casi 4000 m.s.n.m en las alturas de Huarochirí. Caracterizada principalmente por tener un sin numero de rocas con formas muy caprichosas.

We took a little trip and we reached further than we could have imagined. The adventure group Somos went to Marcahuasi, a mountain formed by volcanoes, with the peak at approximately 4km above sea level in the region of Huarochiri. It is characterised mainly by a number of strangely-shaped rock formations.

Ellos accedieron a un paraje a través de un camino de la herradura (de tres a cuatro horas) que parte de la pintoresca localidad de San Pedro de Casta (3.350 msnm.), adonde se accede remontando una carretera afirmada desde Santa Eulalia a la altura del kilómetro 35 de la Carretera Central. Desde Lima, se deberá llegar al parque Echenique en la ciudad de Chosica, donde existe un paradero de autobuses que conducen diariamente a San Pedro de Casta.

They travelled by bus to a bus exchange terminal (3 or 4 hours away) that is part of the picturesque town of San Pedro de Casta (3,350 above sea level), where there is a path from Santa Eulalia to the Central Highway. From Lima, you should reach the parque Echenique in the city of Chosica, where there is a bus terminal that goes daily to San Pedro de Casta.

Se dice que en Marcahuasi en las rocas se puede observar el rostro de la humanidad, donde la caminata y el hermoso paisaje que nos muestran los jóvenes con su Desafío que consistió en trepar una montaña grande que desembocaba a un río.

It is said that in Marcahuasi, the face of humanity in can be seen in rocks, where the walk and the beautiful landscape challenged youths to climb the mountain leading to a big river.

El reto de estos jóvenes 12 horas de ida y vuelta. La subida de aquella montaña era de 2 horas, estos jóvenes nos demostraron su persistencia y el compañerismo para subir la montaña, y que esta aventura quedará en la memoria de ellos.

The challenge was for the youths to return in 12 hours. Ascending the mountain took 2 hours, but these young people demonstrated their persistence and camaraderie in climbing the mountain, and this adventure will be remembered by them.

Grupo de Servicio Nº3: Pa’ los Coquitos

Service Group Nº3: Pa’ los Coquitos

Uno de los grupos de servicio, este proyecto consistió en llevar alegría a los niños del Puericultorio Pérez Araníbar que alberga a niños y niñas huérfanos, el gran corazón de estos jóvenes por servir a otros.

This is a service group, and the project of these youths wth big hearts consisted of bringing joy to the orphaned children of Puericultorio Pérez Araníbar.

Estos jóvenes altruistas llevaron un show para ellos, un baile y les enseñaron un canción en inglés para el día del maestro, tuvieron una muy buena tarde con cada niña que muy lindas abrieron sus corazones para estos jóvenes que estuvieron muy contentos de poder pasar una muy bonita tarde con los niños.

These altruistic youths put up a show, a dance and taught them an English song for Teachers' Day. They had a great afternoon with the lovely children. The children opened their hearts to them and the youths were contented to spend a beautiful afternoon with them.

El poder compartir con otros te llena el alma y deja huellas en aquellas niñas que creen en jóvenes que si dan todo su tiempo, cariño hacia las niñas. Amar es compartir…el grupo Pa los coquitos (para los niños) marcaron los corazones de estas niñas de 10 añitos.

The ability to share with others filled their hearts and left an imprint on the children that were grateful for youths who gave their time and love to them. To love is to share and the group Pa los coquitos (meaning: for the little ones) shares with these children of 10 years.

Un comentario corto de Karla una de las jóvenes: Me conmovió muchísimo que las niñas al terminar con el proyecto me dijeran: No te olvides de mí…esas palabras casi me hicieron llorar, espero que otros jóvenes apuesten por visitar al Puericultorio, les aseguro que se llevarán gratos momentos.

A short comment from Karla, one of the youths: "It moved me very much when the children told me at the end of the proyect: "Don't forget me". These words almost made me cry. I hope that other youths would be willing to visit Puericultorio, to assure that that they will continue to have such great moments."
