GREETINGS FROM SINGAPORE

Our dear and memorable friend DELIA ..wrote to us from Singapore.. she has something special to tell us... Currently, she is working really hard for our club to grow more in Peru and she gives us some advices for us not to give up from what we have already achieved in the club! Read carefully to her words for every single member of the club, our dear youths from Generation ACTS Club International.......... I still remember the day when I left Singapore to go to Peru. We had nothing - no ability to speak Spanish, no friends, no jobs, no visas, no place to live in - just our luggage, and excited hearts believing that we can make a difference in this foreign land. 6 years have since passed, and today, I am back in Singapore again. As I reflect upon all these 6 years in Peru, I can confidently name them as "the best 6 years of my life". It wasn't a bed of roses - there were many more downs than ups.. I struggled a lot in the first few years, to get a job, to survive in my job, to get a visa, to learn the language, to get to know enough to move around, to take a combi, to open a bank account, to understand Peruvians, and even to help them. We faced so many obstacles such that many times we would question ourselves on why we came to this country which doesn't seem to appreciate the good work that we want to do for its people. Yet, the love that God has put in my heart for people kept me going on. Every time I feel like giving up, I would remember the same dream that brought me here, and I would pray and ask God to give me hope and perseverance. And so, I continued, year after year, until the chapter closed so beautifully. I have loads of fond memories… the food is mouth-watering, the weather body-soothing, the scenery eye-pleasing, but all these pale in comparison to the faces I now keep in my memories. Faces of poor, dirty, sick and hungry children giving me a hug and saying, 'Miss, you are the best'; faces of once-disoriented youths rising up beyond their seemingly-hopeless realities to seek a better future and to become leaders and entrepreneurs; faces of once-normal adults joining us to pursue the extra-ordinary life of serving others.. I have so many names, to name them will take pages upon pages!! I remember trying to give a goodbye speech to all of you in this youth club and ended up using my tears more than my saliva. I do not deny that I was sad - but more than sadness, it was the overwhelming joy within me seeing all your lives that have changed and youths who aspire great things for your lives so that you can make an impact in the society. It brings great me satisfaction knowing that all our labor in you is not in vain. My life is like an open book, read out to you every time you step into the club, and I pray that you will remember every good thing you have learnt and will continue to propagate this good through your life example to the world around you. Remember to be faithful with every single role you are in today - being a student, son or daughter, brother or sister, friend, or even a club member or leader - always striving to be the best you can be! I thank all of you for your friendship and love, and thank you for allowing me to enter your heart and share with you my life. May you go forth to bless and inspire many other lives in this nation. SALUDOS DESDE SINGAPUR

Todavía recuerdo el día cuando salí de Singapur para venir a Perú. No tuvimos nada – ni hablamos español, ni amigos, ni trabajos, no visas, ni un lugar para vivir – simplemente nuestro equipaje y un corazón emocionado creyendo que sí podemos hacer una diferencia en esta tierra extranjera.
Desde entonces, han pasado 6 años, y hoy en día, estoy de vuelta a Singapur. Mientras reflexiono sobre estos 6 años, puedo confiadamente nombrarlos como 'los mejores 6 años de mi vida'. No fue todo bonito, hubo muchos más momentos bajos que altos. Luché bastante en los primeros años – para conseguir un trabajo y sobrevivir en el, conseguir una visa, aprender el idioma, conocer el lugar, tomar una combi, abrir una cuenta, comprender a los peruanos, hasta ayudarlos. Enfrentamos tantos obstáculos hasta que muchas veces nos pusimos a preguntar: ¿por qué nos quedamos acá si no aprecian las buenas obras que hacemos para su pueblo? Pero el amor que Dios ha puesto en mi corazón me ha mantenido. Cada vez que me daba ganas a tirar la toalla, recordaré el mismo sueño que me trajo a Perú, y me pondré a orar y pedir que Dios me de esperanza y perseverancia. Así continué, años tras años, hasta que cierre este hermoso capítulo. Tengo un montón de memorias maravillosas… la rica comida, el fresco clima, el cautivador paisaje, pero todos estos son insignificativos cuando los comparo con los rostros que guardo en mi mente. Rostros de niños pobres, sucios, enfermos y hambrientos abrazándome y diciendo: "Miss, tu eres la mejor"; rostros de jóvenes que solían ser desorientados, pero ahora se levantan encima de sus realidades para buscar un mejor futuro y ser líderes y emprendedores; rostros de adultos que siempre han sido normales, pero ahora nos juntan en la búsqueda de un vida extra-ordinario de servir a los demás… tengo tanto nombres en mi mente, para nombrarlos, ¡tomaré mil páginas!
Recuerdo ese día cuando intenté a dar mi discurso de despedida, pero me salieron mas lagrimas que saliva. No niego que estaba triste, pero más que tristeza, fue el gozo que me llené al ver a todas tus vidas cambiadas y jóvenes con grandes sueños para tu vida para que pueda hacer un impacto en la sociedad. Me trae gran satisfacción saber que todo nuestro labor no fue en vano. Mi vida es como un libro abierto, leído a todos ustedes cada vez que vengan, y mi oración es que recuerdan cada buena cosa que han aprendido y continúen compartiendo esa bondad a tu mundo a través de tu ejemplo. Recuérdense ser fiel con cada rol que tienes hoy – siendo un alumno, un hijo o una hija, un hermano o una hermana, un amigo, o un miembro o líder en el club – siempre aspirando ser lo mejor que puedas.
Les agradezco por su amistad y amor, y gracias por permitirme una entrada a tu corazón para compartir mi vida. Que sigas adelante para bendecir e inspirar a muchas vidas en esta nación. Dios te bendiga.
